CHARTER POLICY NEWS NETWORK (CPNN)

The Charter Policy News Network (CPNN) newsletter provides the resources necessary for the school to stay up to date with changes in state and federal laws and regulations and court decisions that necessitate a change to policy. The CPNN contains information detailing the topics, links to relevant legal citations, additional resources and newly created or revised charter school policy guides. Through the CPNN, the school administration and board of trustees will learn why the policy update was issued and whether the policy is categorized as one of the following:

  • Mandated – representing issues for which state or federal law or regulation specifically requires charter and cyber charter schools to develop policies.
  • Legal Liability – representing issues that may be driven by law or regulation, but such law or regulation does not specifically require a charter or cyber charter school to develop official policy. However, essential policies have been developed to protect the charter and cyber charter school from potential legal challenges.
  • BCS Recommendation – representing policies believed necessary to clarify authority and communicate current school operations.

The BCS policy guides can be easily downloaded into the draft area of the web-based policy system for review, modification and adoption by the board of trustees.
